Ours is a multi-faceted pastoral area.
As a community of faith we are committed to ministry to all people.
The local community
The pastoral area served by the Chapel Royal is perhaps the most diverse of all Brighton's 30 Church of England churches.
Retail
The historic area of downtown Brighton is undergoing a retail renewal. As large department stores have relocated, their premises
now accommodate smaller and more customised, individualised shops. The Chapel Royal is the church for the bohemian North Laine area, as well as
the more historic Lanes of the earlier fishing village of Brighthelmstone.
Cultural Quarter
Theatres, museums, the Dome complex, and the Royal Pavilion are situated around the Chapel Royal.
Urban Dwellers
Central city housing developments have drawn many newer and younger people to reside here. Some are London commuters, others use the internet and other technology in home working.
Tourism
Brighton's Palace Pier and its seafront environs are within our pastoral area. They bring traditional and still popular seafront tourism. Cafes and restaurants give expression to our very
European city centre parish.
Language schools
From Easter to October our parish buzzes with students from Europe and South America attending the many English language schools in the area.
Homelessness
As with any large, vibrant city centre, the homeless and people with addictions are visible. The Chapel Royal, being the Church of the Pavement, has a growing ministry to this group of people.
Refugees/Asylum Seekers
our central parish has a growing number of refugees.
