Al-Anon Family Groups is an organisation for the relatives and friends of alcoholics, who share their experience, strength and hope with each other in order to solve their common problems. Al-Anon has one purpose: to help the families and friends of alcoholics. Anonymity is an important principle of the Al-Anon programme.
Someone else’s drinking can affect your life – be it a relative or friend, male or female. It can:
- turn love to hate
- bring you to the depths of despair
- affect you financially
- lead to violent outbursts
- make you doubt your own sanity
- make you think that you are the problem.
Whatever your relationship to the drinker, whatever your story, Al-Anon can help.
Al-Anon Family Groups hold regular meetings where members share their own experience of living with alcoholism. Al-Anon does not offer advice or counselling, but members give each other understanding, strength and hope.

Dates and Times of Meetings
Al-Anon’s last meeting at Chapel Royal is Thursday 26th May 2011. All meetings are by tradition, ‘closed’, that is, attended only by family and friends whose lives have been affected by the alcoholic’s behaviour.
